Superette Film Screenings Special Edition – Wageningen, Netherlands

To commemorate the 74th genocide of the Yazidis on 3 August 2014 in Şengal, a film screening was organised in Wageningen to open a discussion about women’s resistance and revolution.

As women were the hardest hit by the attacks of ISIS, they were and are also the main force resisting a patriarchal system. To commemorate the resistance of Yazidi women and all women in resistance, a film by Bernadetta Argentieri was shown: I Am the Revolution. Following the lives of three women from Afghanistan, Iraq and Rojava, the film showed how the women’s revolution is connected and strengthening itself in the Middle East. The reality of genocides and femicides was highlighted in the introduction. As Yanar Mohammed, one of the protagonists of the film, was murdered at the beginning of April 2026, there was a saying of the director citated closing the introduction with the words: ‘You can kill a woman, but you can’t kill the women’s revolution.’

The well-attended event sparked a long-lasting discussion about the geopolitical situation in Kurdistan and the inspiring moments in the film, as well as the situation of women in the Netherlands. The discussion closed with a call to organise as women in the Netherlands, and continued informally with the comment, “Let’s start with it”.
