Mega Canal Camp & “Building autonomy in territories and on our planet, round-table about communalism”

In Northern France, near Valenciennes, a protest camp was held to oppose a planned mega-canal of 107 km long, which should connect the rivers of Seine and Schild in order to serve shippings between Paris, Dunkerque, Antwerp and Rotterdam. This mega-project is threatening the livelihood of over 50 protected fish species, and will further deepen the water and drought problems troubling the region, especially for small farmers.

The four-days-camp included discussions between collectives, protest march, movie screenings, and round-tables in order to understand how the capitalist state system is attacking spciety and nature, especially through huge infrastructure projets, and how society organizes their self-defense. ADM also participated in the program, by joining a panel discussion on “Building autonomy in territories and on our planet, round-table about communalism”. The round-table allowed to connect communalist experiences and perspectives in Kurdistan, Chiapas, Belgium and France, and shed light on the common struggle and spirit of communalism, and at the same time on the diversity in pratice and theory.
